About The Ken Sargent House
The Ken Sargent House is a home away from home for patients receiving treatment at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and their families. Our facility will offer:
- 16, 216 Sq feet (Total floor area)
- 21 Suites, all with private washroom facilities
- Two accessible units
- Ten double suites
- Nine individual suites
- Common dining area
- Common living area
- Large shared kitchen
- Laundry facilities
- Fitness area
- Library
- Kid’s play area
- Walking distance to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital

We are responsive and adaptive, providing a welcoming and inclusive facility that is self-sustainable.
Who We Serve
Grande Prairie Regional Hospital serves northwestern Alberta and is the nearest advanced medical facility for around 400,000 residents in your region.
The house is available by referral to patients and their chosen support system, needing the following medical care:
- High-risk pregnancy
- Newborns needing the NICU
- Surgery
- Trauma with extended stay
- Cancer (chemo and radiation)
- Mental health (adult, intensivecare, geriatric, and youth)
- ICU
- Pediatric

Challenges For Rural Hospital Patients

- Cost: Patients and their families seeking treatment away from home are faced with the cost of food and accommodation during an already difficult time.
- Comfort: Long-term stays in hotels often don’t offer the resources and space for families to feel comfortable.
- Support: For many of our patients, their journey to health is a lonely one.
- Convenience: Having accommodation close to the hospital reduces travel time and parking fees and increases the hospital’s accessibility.
- Community: Receiving treatment away from home also removes patients from their support systems.
